Almost 2 in 3 Australian adults are either overweight or obese. Lets just let that sink in for a bit. 2 in 3 – that’s about 11 million people in this country alone who are struggling to maintain a healthy weight. We all know that there are many health implications for being over-weight and obese, but still the statics are not improving…..so why is this such an issue for us? Why not just lose the weight?

There are so many reasons why you might be struggling to lose those extra kilos – genetics, diet, hormone imbalances, a high body weight set-point, or maybe it’s that food is becoming so super convenient (hello uber eats) and we can literally get our cravings sorted with one swipe of the smart phone and delivered straight to our doors. Or maybe its because food marketing is literally in our face 24/7.

The truth is that it can be tough for a lot of people to lose AND maintain a healthy weight. There is so much conflicting information and ways to lose weight that it’s not surprising that people become confused and don’t know what the best way to lose weight FOR THEM is, where to start and most importantly get the support and results that they need. There are many factors influencing weight loss which is specific to each person, like why do you put on a couple of kilos just sniffing a breakfast waffle while your bestie eats them every day and doesn’t ever gain weight??!! So unfair. But don’t worry, we are here to help!

The most common thing we see in dieting today is people who lose the weight only to put it straight back on again, plus more. This becomes a vicious cycle of dieting and weight gain only to leave you feeling despondent and as though you have failed.  Research suggests that there are no quick fixes for weight loss, it needs to be done slowly and safely in order to shift your body’s natural weight set-point increasing your chances of long-term success.

Chinese medicine is a great adjunct to weight loss supporting gut health, fluid metabolism, stress response and fat loss and in conjunction with a calorie-controlled diet and exercise this can be a successful approach. However, there is generally a bit more to it than that, so we wont just stop there, using our expertise in hormonal health and differential diagnosis we will identify any hormonal road blocks and ensure that your weight loss program addresses any underlying imbalance to really support you holistically through this program giving you the best chance to lose those kilos.

Our approach is multi-faceted and designed specifically for you to give you the best chance at reaching your goals, and we will be with you each step of the way. In order to support you as best we can, here at The Pagoda Tree we have put together a 6 week program which is the first phase of the treatment plan to get you started. Our initial 6 week phase 1 program includes the following:

  • An initial consultation, health assessment and Chinese medicine diagnosis (and acupuncture treatment)

  • Goal setting and self-monitoring techniques
  • Dietary and exercise guidelines
  • Weekly appointments for the first 6 weeks to keep you motivated and including acupuncture treatments to support your health and promote weight loss.

And it all doesn’t end there, at the end of the 6 weeks we will re-assess your progress and continue to support you to reach your weight loss goals into phase 2 as needed.
